May ZeinElDein Celebrates Recognition on International Women’s Day

May Zein ElDein, President of the Egyptian Wheelchair Basketball Federation, expressed her great pride and happiness at being honored during the International Women’s Day celebration, emphasizing that this recognition represents an important acknowledgment of disability sports in Egypt and of all those working to support and empower people with disabilities.

Zein ElDein stated that being honored by Her Excellency Egypt’s first lady, Mrs. Entisar El-Sisi carries significant moral value, noting that this recognition reflects the growing commitment to supporting people with disabilities and integrating them into society through sport.

She added: “This recognition is not for me alone; it is a tribute to every athlete in disability sports, and to everyone who works sincerely to provide them with opportunities to prove their abilities, achieve success, and raise Egypt’s name on the international stage.”

The President of the Egyptian Wheelchair Basketball Federation confirmed that the coming period will witness continued efforts to develop the sport and expand its reach across various governorates. She highlighted a strong focus on nurturing new generations of players capable of competing at continental and international levels.

She further explained that the federation prioritizes supporting the national team and preparing it to the highest standards, particularly in light of upcoming African competitions, while working to provide an optimal environment for athletes to achieve the best possible results.

Mrs. Entissar El-Sisi honored May Zein ElDein during the International Women’s Day celebration held under the theme “The Egyptian Woman… An Icon of Success,” which recognized a number of inspiring female figures across various fields in appreciation of their contributions to society.

This recognition comes in acknowledgment of Zein Eldin’s prominent role in supporting and empowering people with disabilities, as well as her efforts in developing wheelchair basketball in Egypt, expanding participation, and preparing athletes to represent the country in international competitions.

May Zein Eldin is considered one of the leading advocates for disability sports in Egypt. She was selected among the Top 50 Most Influential Women in Egypt in 2025 and holds several key positions, including President of the Egyptian Wheelchair Basketball Federation, President of the Northern Region of the African Wheelchair Basketball Federation, and a member of both the Arab Wheelchair Basketball Federation and the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood.
