Dr. Adel Sherif is a distinguished figure in Egyptian and Arab wheelchair basketball, known for his long-standing contributions as a coach, manager, and mentor. He served as the Head Coach of the Egyptian National Wheelchair Basketball Team under the Egyptian Paralympic Committee from 1999 until 2023, leading the team to numerous historic achievements.

He guided Egypt to win the first-ever Arab Championship held in Kuwait in 2002 and spearheaded the national team’s participation in the World Cup in Japan in 2002. Over the years, he secured multiple medals and top rankings in African, Arab, and international competitions, establishing Egypt as a strong contender on the global wheelchair basketball stage.

As a member of the Egyptian Wheelchair Basketball Federation,  Sherif played a pivotal role in shaping the sport nationally. He was also Chairman of the Basketball Committee, overseeing both the technical and managerial aspects of national team participation in African Championships and the 2023 African Para Games, where Egypt clinched a bronze medal.

Under his leadership, Egypt qualified for the World Championship in Dubai 2023, finishing in 11th place, and earned recognition for competing fiercely against some of the world’s top teams. His tireless dedication also extended to training and preparing a new generation of players, building sustainable systems for future success.

Dr. Sherif’s journey is a testament to resilience and passion. From his early days as a coach leading Egypt to continental glory, to his decades-long service developing the sport, his legacy is marked by medals, milestones, and the inspiration he continues to offer to athletes with disabilities across Africa and beyond.
